No one can control when accidents happen. At Square One, we’re committed to a fair and efficient claims process. If you need to make a claim under your car insurance policy, here are the steps you can expect as you move through the process.

01

Report your claim

To start a car insurance claim, log in to your online account, go to the “Claims” section, and follow the instructions provided. Or if you prefer, call 1.855.331.6933 and press 4 when prompted. When you report your claim, you’ll need to provide some basic information. You should have the following information ready when you call:

  • Your policy number
  • The details of the vehicle involved in the accident, including registration and license plate numbers
  • The names and driver’s license numbers of each driver involved in the accident
  • Your description of the accident, including the date, time, and location
  • Your description of damage to the vehicle
  • The number of passengers involved
  • Insurance information for each driver involved, including insurance company names and policy numbers

If you have Comprehensive, All Perils, or Specified Perils coverage, and you wish to make a claim for damage that wasn’t caused by a traffic accident, the process is essentially the same, though there may not be any other parties involved. If a crime was committed (such as vandalism or theft of the vehicle), you should still file a police report.

After you’ve reported your claim, an adjuster from Zurich (the underwriter of car insurance policies sold by Square One) will contact you as soon as possible.

Work with your adjuster

Once an adjuster has been assigned to your claim, they will be your point of contact. They’ll guide you through the process, explaining what your policy will cover and what your next steps will be.

If your claim relates to a traffic accident, your insurer will also determine which driver or drivers were responsible. To learn more about fault determination and how it may affect your claim settlement, visit our fault determination guide.

If there are any injuries associated with the claim, your adjuster help explain the coverages available to you.

03

Get back on the road

Your adjuster will help you find an appropriate repair shop as needed. They’ll also determine your eligibility for a rental car or other alternate transportation if necessary.

You’ll need to pay any deductible that applies to your claim, and for any repairs that aren’t covered by your policy. Aside from that, your policy will pay for the repair or replacement of your vehicle, and you’re good to go.

04

Tell us how we did

At Square One, we’re committed to providing an efficient claims service. When your claim is concluded, you’ll be asked to complete an independent online survey. You’ll have the opportunity to share your experience, including whether you were satisfied with the service you received. You’re also welcome to provide feedback at any time during the claims process. Simply email us at claims.feedback@squareone.ca.
